The winner of the 1,000 Guineas was supposed to return to the race but had to be withdrawn from Saturday’s Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket. According to official reports, the horse suffered a setback.

“She's still lame behind and is going to the vets today for them to have a look at her”, trainer Pam Sly said. “I think she's probably pulled a muscle or something like that. I doubt she'll run again this season, but she stays in training next year.”

Speciosa is still registered for the Champion Stakes in two weeks but trainer Sly explained that it was too early to make any predictions about whether the horse will be able to compete or not.

“It's frustrating but that's the nature of horses”, the trainer finished.
