England’s Court of Appeal ruled against the British Horse Racing Board on Wednesday in a long-running dispute with William Hill to decide whether the bookmaking firm should have to pay for use of racing information from the board’s database.
The British Horse Racing Board had planned to supplement the British racing industry with the sale of pre-race data, replacing the existing Levy system. The European Court of Justice ruled that William Hill should not have to pay for entry information.

She turns to vendors in Shelby County to buy about $3,600 worth of feed grain and spends about $6,000 a month on horseshoes.
The business that churns through Webb's stable is a small but vital part of Kentucky's overall horse industry, which sustains about 96,000 jobs and has an economic impact of about $3.5 billion.

New Racing Season Opens

A chance to celebrate the Fourth of July weekend with old friends and new as well as to help kick off the 2005 live pari-mutuel horse racing season at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds will be offered Saturday and Sunday.
The two days of racing as part of the July 4th Racing Festival are the first of four racing meets planned at the local track this summer.
Sponsored by the Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association, the July 4th Racing Festival will see both thoroughbred and quarter horse racing.

Singapore Derby

The Singapore Derby is the oldest feature race in Singapore with a history dating back to 1880. Now, it has made history of a different kind, with Emirates sponsoring the race for a record 10th year.
Over the last decade, the Singapore Derby has grown in stature in the region, making it one of the most coveted by owners, trainers and jockeys.
Emirates was the first airline in Singapore to sponsor horse racing.

The fact that Sandy Downs will be home to this year’s summer season couldn’t be more exciting.
Smith said, “I started in 1976, and I’ve had racehorses all the way through.”
A legal fight over the ownership of the Boise racetrack continues to drag on, but the horses aren’t waiting, they’re ready to run.

Horse Racing Hall of Fame

Nick Zito is 0-for-8 in this year's Triple Crown races, but now he's one for the Racing Hall of Fame.

The popular 57-year-old trainer was the lone inductee among four flat-racing categories under a new voting system that required a winner to garner 75 percent or more of the votes, an indication of the overwhelming support for the New York City native.

In previous years, inductees in the trainer, jockey, and contemporary male and female horse categories were elected by a simple majority.

Summer horse racing circuit

The summer fair racing circuit, leaner and greener than in past years, opens Wednesday with the San Joaquin County Fair in Stockton.
Because officials at Cal Expo in Sacramento successfully petitioned the California Horse Racing Board to make its harness season virtually year-round, there will be no State Fair meeting.
Instead of trying to award the 12 lost racing days to another site, the CHRB decided simply to eliminate them for this year, at least.

Horse Racing At Fair Meadows

And they're, almost off. A summertime tradition starts Thursday in Tulsa as live horse-racing kicks off at Fair Meadows. The season runs through July.
News on 6 reporter Steve Berg says horse racing isn't quite what it was. Casinos have taken a piece of their action, but we still found some race fans that are chomping at the bit.
Jim Kaemmerling has been a regular at Fair Meadows for the past 7 years.

Horse racing returns to Cardiff

Horse racing returned to Cardiff for a day with a meeting of harness races at Trelai Park in Ely for the first time in eight years.
Four dozen horses took part in a free event to promote the Welsh Festival of the Horse, at Margam Park at Easter 2005, involving 50,000 participants.
Around 2,000 people turned up at the city park, which was once host to the Welsh Grand National.
Organiser Martyn Williams said: "Ely is an ideal setting for harness racing."
