Owner Jess Jackson has informed in a press release that Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra could race again next 12th June. Although Jackson did not specify a race, he mentioned four possible races, including the Ogden Phipps at Belmont Park, The Stephen Foster, The Fleur de Lis and The Obeah.
“Rachel Alexandra's condition continues to improve,” the press release stated. “We were impressed with Rachel's Memorial Day work breezing six furlongs in 1:11.20 and galloping out a mile in 1:38. Her next work is Monday, June 7.” The press release also reads that Rachel Alexandra comeback will depend on the fact that she continues to progress.
Even though all the races mentioned are a possibility, the obvious choice seems to be The Fleur de Lis since it is a female only race and is run at Churchill Downs, where she has remained since mid-March. On the other hand, in The Stephen Foster she would race against males, while the Ogden Phipps is run in New York and The Obeah in Delaware.
“Our ultimate goal has not changed in scheduling Rachel Alexandra's campaign this year. We are getting her back to her fitness level of last year with the long-term hope to race her in the Breeders' Cup this fall,” the statement continues. All horse racing fans hope to see this great horse racing again soon.
