Rachel Alexandra, winner of the Horse of the Year title in 2009, arrived at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs to wait for her next start that is expected to take place during the horse racing season that will start on 23rd July. During spring, the four-year-old filly was stationed at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.
Co-owner Jess Jackson will be in charge of announcing Rachel Alexandra’s next start but apparently the possibilities will be centered on two races: the Ruffian Handicap that will take place on 1st August and the Personal Ensign to take place on 29th August. The filly is expected to continue with the winning streak that started on 12th June in the Fleur de Lis.
Last season was a wonderful season for the filly who defeated older males in the Woodward Stakes and ended the season with an 8-0 championship streak. In 2009 she also became Horse of the Year, a title to which Zenyatta was her contender, and on 16th May, 2009, Rachel Alexandra became the first filly in 85 years to win the Preakness Stakes, which is the second leg of the Triple Crown.
While Rachel Alexandra is waiting in her stall at trainer Steve Asmussen’s barn as the day of her comeback approaches, her usual contender Zenyatta is expected to make her next start at Del Mar in the Clement L. Hirsch Stakes that will take place on 7th August, a race she won in 2008 and 2009.
